VILLAINY AND TOXICITY
LeFou is meant to be written as a toxic individual. He is a mentally ill abuse victim who actively refuses a path of healthy recovery to the point where he is no longer capable of one even if he decides he wants to try. He can be an emotionally taxing muse to write and to write with. This is part of what makes him the villain that he is. At times he WILL force your muse into emotionally taxing situations just by being there. His entire existence is a cesspool of toxicity and he does at times drag down other muses with him. He is a VILLAIN. He is NOT a healthy individual to interact with. If you or your muse is unable to handle this please contact me privately as soon as you feel it is getting to be too much, and I will tone things down for our interactions, but as it is, as I write him in his default, LeFou is too far gone. He is toxic. He is neglectful and he is abusive. LeFou is an emotional burden to those who camind re for him. Your muse can try to fix him, but they will not likely succeed, and please be prepared for that outcome as a mun when you interact with him. I don’t often write LeFou with a redemption arc and it’s not something I plan on doing often unless you as a mun come to me and express that you are having difficulties interacting with LeFou as he is. I cannot know that this is an issue unless you tell me, because I do start my blog with this disclaimer that these types of dramas and conflicts will be present.I will go the extra mile to ensure your comfort when writing with me, all I ask is that I am communicated with to ensure that I’m able to preserve your comfort. I don’t mind bending my portrayal to fit another mun’s needs. I do, however, mind a lack of communication and someone approaching me expecting LeFou to be a healthy individual in the first place, because it is NOT how I write him and shows a complete disrespect to my portrayal and the hard work I’ve put into writing him.LeFou is toxic. LeFou is likely to abuse your muses, drain them, and drag them down with him. LeFou is a VILLAIN. If you are not okay with this, talk to me and I’ll write him in lighter verses. I don’t switching, I just need to be aware.

BACKSTORY
EARLY LIFE
LeFou, known in early childhood as Fabien, was the son of a wealthy accountant and midwife who fell into poverty after his father was forced to return to his home city. The young boy was originally tasked to continue his father’s trade in order to save the family from financial turmoil, which was a task he could not succeed in.
Fabien was born to Gad and Miriam LaFayette, two members of French nobility who eloped from a larger city to Villeneuve due to family disapproving of their relationship. Fabien was born rather late, Gad and Miriam having waited longer than most to have a child. The two were deeply in love and held each other as their first priority- Fabien's only purpose was to bring them together. This mindset provided a rather unhealthy environment growing up, and he wasn't quite viewed as a child or individual. Merely an asset in their romance.Due to his parent's neglicence, LeFou suffered an accident in his early years that led to him sustaining a severe head injury. He'd gotten hungry and attempted to climb out of his crib, and he'd fallen. Following this, his parents locked him away in shame for the most part- LeFou's development was completely stunted from then on. He didn't learn to speak on time, and missed many other typical milestones.Once he reached schooling age, his parents could no longer hide his existence with his mother and father frequently inviting clients over. Fabien became his parent’s apprentice instead of getting to study for his own career. Most times, his father would be far too busy to take him on as an apprentice, being the only accountant in town and usually on location at his client’s property. His mother figured that in the meantime, she would educate him in practical nursing skills. He was quite good at this task- he’d always been more maternal. He would feed and care for the infants, quite enjoying this task. He was an only child and got quite lonely, but never did get the chance to socialize with the others. He was raised secular and had little to no interaction with those outside of his home. His father was called back to his and Miriam's former residence by the royals to deal with a local crisis (that of the Les Charmantes, though that has all been forgotten) when LeFou was almost twelve. His absence marked the start of a mental decline for Miriam, who saw their temporary separation as a sort of betrayal. Miriam took out her emotions on Fabien by expecting him to fill Gad's role in the family while he was away.Fabien would have been bright- and more than capable of the task, were it not for the accident years prior, the head injury that had reduced his mental capactity greatly. He had a career change forced upon him overnight. Tutors were hired from the nearest villages, yet the learning environment was still too tense. He couldn't focus, and the time slipped by too quickly. Any grasp on reading, writing, maths or recordkeeping evaded him. Unable to keep up with the basic requirements of his father's career, he was dubbed a failure by his mother. She soon grew disdainful of him. She was overwhelmed from the loss and couldn't refrain from comparing Fabien to his father. Were he as bright as his father, he would’ve kept them afloat, after all- she was so consumed in loss that she did not realize her expectations were impossible. She grew ever colder, beginning to neglect Fabien. She eventually became mad with grief. In an attempt to try and scare him into 'taking his father's occupation seriously', she even sent him to the Maison for a night while wondering if he had some sort of defect. When that failed, she isolated him completely. She then dubbed him ‘LeFou.’ The fool, the family disgrace and stopped hiring tutors. He internalized it, believing he was undeserving of his birth name and wished not to invoke further pain in his greiving mother. He eventually blacked out his birth name from his mind, after overheariing the traumatic news of his Father’s demise during the uprising. The once esteemed family had plummeted to the bottom of society. There was no hope of them ever returning to their former status- until, a client of the late accountant offered a proposal to the widow. Monsieur LeGume was another of the more wealthy members of the village, who also had a son back home. Monsieur LaFayette was always particularly social with his clients and the two became friends over the years. He also had a son Fabien’s age, named Gaston. He offered up a small fortune, and a opportunity for LeFou’s redemption, were the boy to work as his son’s servant. Eager for the money and to get rid of the memories of her love, she willingly gave her son up, cutting off contact. He looked too much like his father for her to bare seeing him again.
ADOLESCENCE
He didn’t see it as being given up. The way LeFou viewed it, was a way to prove to his father up in heaven that he did still have a use. He could do something, improve someone’s life somehow. He’d assist another family, and pay for a home for his mother, who he still loved despite her hatred of him. He packed up his things, and went across the village to his new residence and workplace. Overall, he was actually quite happy at this point in his life- due solely to naivety and obliviousness. He was too sheltered to realize the truth. It was then that he met Gaston. He was equally intimidated and infatuated by the handsome, stronger teen. Surprisingly, he wasn’t put to work right away. He wasn’t treated as an equal, far from it, but he was still treated like the boy he was and given somewhat of a childhood. At times outside of work, he was treated as if he was at a far lower maturity level, and LeFou adapted rather than disproved. He had his duties- cleaning, laundry, basic medical care (and with a rough-and-tumble boy like Gaston, this was duly needed) yet otherwise he was seen as somewhat of a friend to his liege.Of course, he still had his reputation. Those around him now knew LeFou as a failure and a burden (and some took in account his ethnicity), so this relationship did change. Gradually, the social pressure caused Gaston to start looking down upon LeFou even more than he previously had, influenced by the words of others and his own pride. LeFou’s shortcomings became more and more noticeable. Much like with his mother, he was far too blinded by times and memories of friendship to protest when discipline, abuse and humiliation became a daily occurrence.Such disciplinary measures left their impact. Even as a lad Gaston's strength was unheard of and too much for LeFou's mind to bear. While his body learned to take a hit, his brain suffered. Repeated concussions left him with vision issues, cognitive disfunction, and impacted his intelligence and growth. Given that LeFou was just beginning to undergo puberty, this rendered him permanently stunted.
EARLY ADULTHOOD
Once the two reached adulthood, Gaston decided to turn down the traditions that came with a life of nobility. Thet two decided to venture out to the streets of Villeneuve full-time, instead of staying in the seclusion of the mansion. Gaston purchased a local pub, and LeFou helped to maintain it. Gaston bought hunting gear and clothes, and LeFou retrieved any shot game. During this time he also did learn that his attraction was more than friendship, and after attending Church for the first time, knew he couldn't possibly ever be with Gaston romantically. His desires were wrong on a basis of both rank and gender. LeFou managed to bypass this by merely abstaining. At first, this was hard for him, he was often under pressure to court a wife despite his role, and ended up flirting with the triplets quite frequently to try and fake this. He even did have a short-lived affair with Paulette. The pressure of faking it took such a strain on him that Gaston eventually discouraged him from dating and other unnaproved social interaction, as it interfered with his work and took attention off of him, something LeFou felt relieved by.He gladly accepted the role of the village idiot. They had all already thought so, there wasn’t much more to lose. Even if he would be hurt and ridiculed constantly, his occasional flamboyant behavior was also enjoyed by the crowd. He continued to help out at the tavern, brewing and serving drinks aside his regular duties, and often performed for the patrons. He was dedicated to his role as Gaston's servant, and took any degradation or demeaning related to it with pride isntead. He felt no desire to move up in life. He'd found where he belonged. He still held a love for Gaston in him, and it did pain him to see him be adored by every woman in town. It pained him more to see the one exception, the one who didn’t care for his headman, be the one he admired the most. Though he never got extremely jealous, as he still saw himself as unworthy. He believed Gaston deserved someone like Belle, over someone like him. Prioritizing Gaston's happiness, LeFou swore to help Gaston find a wife.Still following the LeGume head-of-households lead, LeFou had agreed to assist him in the plot to lock Maurice in the Maison des Lunes. Part of him felt the plot went too far, but he didn't object to his orders. To cope with the slight guilt he let his fear take over, which led to aggression, which led to manipulation and heinous action.Leading the mob to the Castle, LeFou fought with all his might in the battle. He attempted to melt Lumiere and attacked several others until he was used as a shield and sustained a concussion. He was injured, and stumbled out of the castle and into the woods before passing out for the duration of the fight. When he came to, he realized he'd fled the fighting and abandoned everyone. He knew he couldn't face Gaston after this, and he certainly couldn't face the village. Gaston would've been with Belle already, happy without him, and if he did appear he'd sic the town against LeFou over his treason, perhaps even have him sent to the Maison instead. He had nowhere to go.
MID LIFE
LeFou had wanted to apologize and repent from the very moment they called the asylum owner to town to bribe him into locking up Belle’s father. He knew he’d gone too far then, and wanted to quit- but he was far too afraid of betraying Gaston in doing so. It was clear that Gaston was violent and would very well lock up or kill him if he disagreed. When the battle was over and the curse lifted, he’d ran in fear. Gaston was dead. He had no protection, no place to go. He couldn’t gather the strength to face the town, Belle or Maurice after everything. Had he made it known, would things be different? Soon after, King Beast had united the many kingdoms and magical worlds, creating a paradise called Auradon. An island slum, a practical prison was also created. LeFou watched as the man he loved and mourned was revived- and the two were both sent there to live amongst the worst villains the world had ever known. Before being sent to the Isle, LeFou was put through a mock trial- one framed as real, but with predetermined results and for the sole purpose of humiliation and punishment. It was argued that his love for Gaston was an evil and depraved thing, that the abuse he suffered at Gaston's hands was nothing but masochism. When given the opportunity, he plead guilty to it all due to the trauma of the experience and his grief at the news of Gaston's death. Much like with his own mother, grief and guilt led him to lose himself.Of course, a hierarchy developed among the villains. The most powerful of them all, Maleficent, practically ran the social ranks of the island. The lowest was where Gaston and LeFou would find themselves. Not only were they powerless with no true accomplishments, If Gaston hadn’t failed to slay the Beast, the Isle may not have been created.Gaston placed all of the blame for their failure on LeFou, and branded him as a traitor, refusing to accept LeFou at his side. Rumors spread like wildfire, and soon LeFou was known throughout the Isle as one who'd abandoned his villain and fled his duties as a henchman. He became Gaston's scapegoat, and the two split. Though, Gaston would call LeFou back when the man was needed for his skills in medicine.LeFou's medicinal skill was perhaps what earned him survival on the Isle. The dirty conditions led to plenty of injury and infection. Most of the Isle's residents had no idea how to treat ailments without magic or superior technology. Among the few weeds that grew beneath the Isle's smog cover were some with medicinal qualities that LeFou recognized as ones he used back in Villeneuve. Few would admit it out loud, but he was useful. For that the traitor was spared.Gaston eventually moved on, and though depressed and still very violent he found a pretty girl who birthed him a set of twins. LeFou, now open with his sexuality, still didn’t feel ready to find love again. However he did adopt one of the abandoned children now on the island. LeFou cared for his child, Deux, with genuine love and kindness, like a good parent. And for that as well as his status and reputation, Deux had been taken from him by the likes of Claude Frollo. He attempted to dispute this, but he had no blood claim. Part of LeFou's medical expertise involved infant care. Gaston had him perform a midwife's duties for each of his children. LeFou delivered the twins and then was barred from contact with them once they showed any signs of attachment to him. When Gaston had his third son, it was clear he didn’t live up to Gaston’s standards. Gaston didn’t even name him after himself. After being far too preoccupied with his model sons, Jr. and The Third, LeFou took up raising Gil when his mother was absent. Gil did end up taking after LeFou, with his thick-headedness, lack of a filter and shared tendency to be the subject of slapstick in musical numbers.LeFou had made it known to the others that he was done with the villainous lifestyle. He was done with evil and mischief and all the awful things he’d done in the past. He believed that they were all wrong, that he himself was wrong for what he’d done. He’d given up, and accepted his punishment. He was seen as a corrupting influence, the original Villains not wanting the fool’s ideas of repentance to reach the children they intended to raise to be copies of themselves; either as successors or merely to create more villains and spite Auradon. After Gil left to join Uma’s crew, LeFou was alone once again. Though completely outcasted and at constant threat of retaliation from the other villians in the lawless isle, he did continue to counsel the occasional villian child who wanted to know about why LeFou was giving up evil for good. This curiosity increased after King Ben had allowed some children, who had also given up a villainous life for the side of the heroes, to join society in Auradon. LeFou was grateful to Ben for this, though he never did express it.After all, if the Beast changed, why couldn’t they? Why couldn’t he?He was trying as hard as he could. His journey had started long before the Isle of the Lost. Yet- his goal was not to go to Auradon. He’d really be a fool if he wanted to be pardoned. No, he still believed he didn’t deserve that.Due to LeFou's personal affiliation with the Royal Family's matriarch, he was much more familiar- and Queen Belle knew he could be trusted much more than the other villians. King Ben was now extending his ideals to those who played the roles of sidekicks, those who tagged along and may or may not have been truly malicious.LeFou was one of the first offered this opportunity. He initially rejected the offer due to immense personal regret, but eventually, he gave in. He knew his child would have an easier time adjusting to the better life he deserved, if he was there for him. It would only cause more stress to be separated by the barrier.LeFou finally agreed to take a temporary stay in Auradon, as well as another chance to be the good man the Queen believed he could be.
